rental property

i have been renting an apt. for 6 months. i pay by the week. there was never any lease however i made my landlord give me a receipt each week. now he is in jail and is about to be deported back to germany for letting his passport expire. i don't even know his real name. now this woman who claims to be his exwife shows uo saying if i don't pay rent i have to move. i just lost my job and have no money. who should i pay? what should i do?

If you have been paying week to week, you have a week to week lease. That means they can kick you out of your apartment with very little notice. Your options, as I see it, are to pay her and stay in the apartment as long as you are able, not pay her, and continue to deliver payment to wherever he lived before going to jail, or to stop paying and move.
