Teacher Terminated in Broward County

Under Broward County School District's (BCSD) policy, any employee can be released under a 97-day probationary period. I was employeed at a local high school and released b/c of a recommendation from a previous principal. I applied to substitute and a school board member told me that b/c I initially did not disclose the last school at which I taught in Palm Beach County, the principal at the Broward school did not have to submit a recommendation. I am being forced into unemployment. What can be done?

The schools do not have to give a positive recomendation. However, they are limited as to what they can say if they do not give you a recommendat. Therefore, whether or not you have a cause of action will depend on what information was provided to your new employer.
