Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
FL Tenant/Landlord issue. I'm the tenant. I live in an apartment complex and we are responsible for utility bills (water, trash, sewer). I've lived here since Sep 2014 and up until August 2017 our utility bills were presented and collected by a third party vendor. No utility bills have been received since August 2017. In July 2018 we received a nasty memo demanding we pay $50 within a couple days but with no bill. Same happened in Aug 2018, demand for $50 and no bill. Not trying to get out of paying what I owe but I'm not comfortable paying demand amounts without a detailed bill showing services rendered, payments and payment distributions. What are my legal rights. I just had an attorney tell me to pay the $50 for a year, doesn't sound bad and put my request for a bill in writing. I have put that request in writing several times but it is just being ignored. It is not $50 for a year of bills, it is now being a $50 a month demand, again without a bill showing services rendered, payments or payment distribution. I must have some rights? How do they demand a payment again with no bill much less no bill for a year?

Not really enough info. Does your lease state that the amount for the utility is a set amount of $50.00 per month or $50 per year. If the lease states that there is a set amount, then you should pay according to the lease to the address given for the utility listed in the lease. If no address listed, then go to the office and ask that they give you a receipt for the payment when you make it and have them put on the receipt what it is for and the month that it is for. If you continue this battle with them, you may be evicted.
