disability benefits

Can I get supplemental security benefits in Florida if I cannot work due to MRSA(methicillin resistant staph)? I have no other means of support.

Re: disability benefits

It depends on the extent of your disability, as determined by your doctor and the consultative examination that you will receive from a doctor as part of the social security evaluation process. SSA will compare the symptoms of your disability to other disabilities, in terms of your actual limitations (can you walk, can you lift, can you sleep, can you drive, etc.)

My recommendation is that you apply for social security on your own (you can do this by downloading an application at ssa.gov). If you are denied, then you can and should hire an attorney to handle the appeal. A large percentage of cases are won on appeal when handled by counsel. But you will probably have to wait 2+ years for any potential approval.
