Social security name change

Can i change the name on my social security card, if i get a legal name change?

I was seperated 25 years ago and the name on my social security card is my married name. After my seperation, i went to change my name on my drivers license, back to my madien name, and they did it with no documentation.

So, my drivers license has my madien name, that i have been using for over 20 years and my social security still has my married name. I have filing taxes under my madien name

i went to the ss office and they wany a copy of a divorce paper, which i do not have. So, will a legal name change help. Please help i am trying to buy a house.

Re: Social security name change

You need a court order to legally change your name. The only ways are though a petition for divorce or with a petition to change your name.
