Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia
The father of my child has not been in her life for over 6 months. I think he will continue to stay out. If I try to get child support from him, he may have visitation. Which would not be a good thing because he is not a good role model for her and I can prove that. I do not want child support from him since I know it would let him have visitation if he so wished. I don't want him to have any rights to our child & he has previously agreed to signing his rights over. But I looked into terminating rights and in most cases in GA the judge won't allow it. If we weren't married would desertion/abandonment of our child still be an option in court?

Abandonment is a criminal proceeding for non-support of a child. Support and visitation are separate. You have to decide if you wish to seek support. He has to decide if he may seek custody or visitation. The right to be supported belongs to the child, so that right cannot be terminated. A support order does not automatically mean visitation. He'd still have to seek that in a separate case.
