what can i do if someone used my child social security number and claimed them on their taxes without my permission.

You said someone. Is it the father or legal guardian? Is it someone you know? Did a court allow the person to claim the children? Did the person qualify under the IRS regulations to claim them?

Of course, the easiest thing to do is ask the person why he or she claimed your children. If the answer doesn't satisfy you contact the IRS or retain an attorney.

If you know the person, but you don't want to have contact with the person; and you are eligible to claim them, the simple thing to do is the call the IRS to inform the government of the problem. Otherwise, you may have to go to court to resolve the problem.
