Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

Rental Agreement

I recently moved out of an apartment after giving notice. The agreement is up on May 31, 2006 but I was out before May 1, 2006. I broke my lease because my car had been broken into twice in the parking lot, their was no secuirty, a young man had been stab a few weeks before in the parking lot and living alone with a young child I felt unsafe. The apartment had no offer to pay for any of the damage nor things taken from my car but wants me to pay the rent for May or $730 for breaking my lease and not return my deposit. My question is should I have to pay all that plus get my car fix? Should I have expected some type of security in the complex? Do I have the right to move if I feel that area is unsafe. I do have police reports for the items that were stolen and I reported both break-ins to the front office.

Re: Rental Agreement

Unless they agreed to provide some kind of additional security, or a complex employee was involved, the complex is not responsible for the crimes committed by others. Generally, you will be responsible for all fees and charges for breaking the lease, and the actions of others will not change that.
