Son won't pay for car
About five years ago, I purchased a car for my son who agreed to make the monthly payments. However, he stopped making the payments after six months and has since purchased two cars for himself. I have been making the payments for the last four years but can no longer afford to do so. I also cannot afford to let the car go into repossession. Can I sue my son for the remaining balance left on the car loan?

I agree with Mr. Wood's assessment. Go after him.

Well, your son certainly has no respect for you. Let's see, you buy him a car, you pay 6 months on "his" car and he stiffs you for the payments on "his" car. Can you sue him? Yes. Should you sue him? Well . . . ask him to pay you back first and if he won't . . . sue him. Even if the other 2 cars have liens on them (loans from the bank to buy them), get a judgment and move to attach your judgment to his other 2 cars and/or garnish his paycheck -- if he has one. When he goes to sell his other 2 cars, the bank or new owner will require that he satisfy your judgment. What you have here is not a legal problem, but one very ungrateful son. Hugh Wood
