Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

Can my vehicle be towed?

I live in an apartment complex in Roswell, Georgia. I pay my rent on time and I have a sticker that relates the fact that I am part of this specific apartment complex community. I know that I paid my taxes for my vehicle, but I did not place the updated tax sticker on my license plate. I was towed yesterday afternoon. This vehicle is moved driven everday and my wife's purse was even in the vehicle. I know that I made a mistake by not placing the sticker on the license plate, but it would seem obvious to me, especially with my wife's purse in the vehicle, that the car was not abandoned. I called the impound yard yesterday and they said the management of the apartment complex told them to tow any vehicle with a May or June 2001 expiration sticker. The person at the impound yard said that it is not their responsibility to research whether or not a specific vehicle's taxes have been paid. Do I have any rescourse or should I simply pay the $140 fee and retrieve my vehicle.
