Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia
Job Offer Retracted
I was offered and accepted a job. I turned in my resignation at my current job. One week after being offered and accepting the new position, the offer was retracted due to the fact the person I was replacing was not leaving. I tried to rescind my resignation, but could not as someone had been hired. I am now unemployed at no fault of my own. Do I have any legal recourse toward the business who retracted the offer, causing me to lose the job I had? Only a verbal offer and acceptance had been made, nothing written.

Re: Job Offer Retracted
Without a contract, an employee can generally be terminated at will even an hour into the first day. Based on your post, you never had any guaranteed job at the new company. Thus, resigning your job was a risk you, or anyone, takes in this situation.
