Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My fiance and his exwife have to appear before a judge in court. In the past, my fiance always had a lawyer to go up there with him. ...and so did she. But now, he dropped his lawyer and he will be going on his own. Am I allowed to approach the judge with him while his wife and her lawyer approach the judge as well, when the case is called? (It's a family law matter involving college costs, etc....nothing criminal)

Only the parties to the lawsuit, attorneys, court personnel, and witnesses when called are allowed to "pass the bar" without the court's permission. You run a real chance of annoying the judge if you ask if you can do so, and you will definitely cause problems if you do not ask permission. Unless you are a witness, there is nothing you can do or say anyway. If he needs moral support, you may be able to sit in the gallery, and if not that is not permitted (which can happen in family law matters), you can wait in the hall.
