can i sue the bride for the cost of my bridesmaid dress if wedding was canceled

Sure! Kick her in the head while you are at it, should make her feel even better about herself.
Actually, I don't know what the basis for a suit would be. Not contract, as you were never going to get anything out of buying the dress, so there is no consideration. Not tort, because you didn't suffer any damages- you still have the dress, you just don't get to wear it to the function for which you bought it. It still has the same value.
And forgive the above response for being flip- I am only trying to say that not every problem has a solution in the law.
I have to agree w/Mr. Farris as well. Unless you have a contract with the Bride which encompasses this situation, then your options are extremely limited. I polite request for some financial help should be your 1st step, particularly if she was the one who canceled the wedding.
