Trying to bring back son to US

Hi... Let me start off with my situation. My husband died unexpectedly in a motor vehicle accident 2 years ago, leaving me and our then 2-month old son. Because of this, I decided to take leave off from work and go home to the Philippines for a 3-week breather. Although not my original intention, I was persuaded by my parents to leave my son there so I could pick up the pieces of my life when I come back here (I literally lost my own family!) I am a permanent resident, by the way, and my son is a US citizen by virtue of birth. He is living in the Philippines now and twice I went back home to celebrate his birthday. I am paying for his stay there in the Philippines as per their immigration law.

My plan is to bring my son back to the US next year after his 3rd birthday. My questions: Will I have a problem? What documents will I have to bring for him to travel? I know i have to have his passport and his father's death certificate along with me. My concern is, when I left him in the Philippines, I didn't think to call or inform the US embassy that I left my son there indefinitely (probably becoz I am still disturbed by the unexpected death of my husband.) What should I do? Please advice, thanks!

Re: Trying to bring back son to US

It would seem to me that you are ok. You have your son's passport, you are a US resident with the required docs and you have birth certificate showing the death of your husband. I can not think of any thing else you would need. As far as contacting the US Emabassy I do not believe that was required. However, given the fact that there appears to be new changes everyday in this area of law I would try to contact the Embassy just to make sure.
