Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I have been accused of theft in my workplace. There is NO proof of my hand being "in the cookie jar" -I am still employed and have been for 13.5 years. HR and my immediate supervisor have told people that I am guilty and have been "sternly" warned. I am NOT guilty of this offense. I also suffer migraine disease which requires my leaving early and missed days - I try to keep the # down and wear sunglasses to ward off the horrible fluorescent lighting in the buildings. I am now being questioned as to WHY I wear them. I have never asked for nor been given accommodations in my work place - after all this, I am now scared, panicky and anxious just walking into the building. I hate what people are saying/thinking about me that's not true. I have been asked to make up my own performance improvement plan - I didn't know my performance was bad until the accusations of theft came to light.
Need to know what I can/can't do here. Tired - very tired.

Being accused of theft in the workplace is very serious. It's even more serious when an employer concludes that an employee engaged in theft. Such a finding, and whether or not your employer tells prospective employers, could limit your ability to secure future employment. I currently am representing a former CVS employee in such a case. My strong advice to you is that you seek counsel to level the playing field between youy and the employer. You can go directly to our firm's website for a free case evaluation. tsamislaw(dot)com
