Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I was given a severance package and it states if I do get another job before severance is out, I can get 1/2 the severance pay. Do I have to tell my former company I have a job? Will they find out?

Illinois law does not require an employer to give you severance pay. Thus, when an employer offers severance pay to employees, this is being done voluntarily. As a voluntary "benefit," your employer can set its own rules around the severance pay. You are bound to these rules when you sign an agreement in connection with receiving the severance benefits and accept the benefits.
