Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois
what happen was that 10 cops shot my dad over 20 times and sadly they kill him.this happen about 3 yrs ago n im just sue right now because back then they told us we couldn't sue,because we didn't really know what happen at the time.but the lawyer i saw said they had to shoot him because he was drunk at the time and that he almost try to stab a cop.and that i understand why they had to shoot him but the problem i got is the number of times they shoot him.and plus there were 10 cops against my dad so i don't get why none of them just try to bring him down or something else rather then shooting him.for them to tell me the reason was he was drunk is stupid i mean its like telling me a guy who cant even stand up and walk right with a knife is more dangerous then a guy who knows what he doing.so i would like to know if that lawyer was right that i dont have a case i just want another persons view on this.

Once an officer discharges a weapon, because of imminent harm they are facing, they are trained to shoot to kill. Unfortunately, with so many officers, each officer discharging their weapon only twice or even three times, for example, brings understanding to why your father was shot over 20 times. I am sorry for such a terrible tragedy. Is there any doubt that your father had a knife? Was there independent witness corroboration of this fact or was it only the police officers that noted this? I hate to sound cynical, but weapons have been dropped on a suspect after the fact.
Based on the facts presented, I would not say that there is no case. However, I also would not say that it is a particularly good case, either. I am sorry for your loss.
