a little confused
i had my middle finger smashed in between a spreader beem and a metal rack got 6 stiches and now i want to settle the insurance company told me to recieve any kind of settlement i would need a scar visible from 6feet or better is that true and why

The insurance company is not really telling the truth.
I think the adjuster is deceiving you - or - is confused between "permanent loss" and "disfigurement".
For me, the real issue is what do you mean by "smashed".
Did you break any bones?
Was the cut or laceration from a compression burst, tearing or from getting sliced?
Generally "smashed" would indicate some sort of internal injury which may increase the value of the case from a "simple" laceration (such as would be experienced in a kitchen injury).

The size and visibility may
affect the value of your
injury, but the law
does not state that you can
recover only if the scar is visible
from 6 feet or more.
Additionally, it sounds like you
had an internal injury when your
finger was "smashed."
Your case may not be worth a fortune,
