Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Federal fair credit reporting act of 1971

10 years ago I had a mortgage discharged, chap 7, in a bankruptcy. The mortgage company continues to report the payment history on my credit report, as my exwife still lives there. My attorney here, who referred me to this site, says that I can have this payment history stopped from showing up on my credit report according to the 1971 federal fair credit reporting act. True or not, and if true, how do I do this?????

Write to the credit bureau and dispute the debt-they have thirty days to provide documantation-if they dont you can then have it removed-if they do, you can write and provide documentation along with a writen demand for them to remove the debt from your credit report. Violations of the FCRA carry stiff penalties including atty fees.
