Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

21 year old residence rights

My wife's son, my stepson, is 21 years old. He has been in trouble with the law in several states and it concerns me that my wife allows him to live in our house. He does drugs and has no respect for his mother or myself. Everytime I tell her I can't put up with it anymore and that she better throw him out she threatens with throwing me out of the house. Am I required to let him live in my house? My wife and I are the owners. Thank you.

Re: 21 year old residence rights

Your stepson reached the age of adulthood upon his 18th birthday, so you and your wife no longer have any legal obligation to house him or provide for him. As an adult, he is presumed to be capable of getting a job and supporting himself, and you need not assist him in any way.

Good luck.
