Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

I have a situation concerning a vehicle that is regestered in my name in the state of indiana. My ex boyfriend, who helped me with the down payment on the car, was in an accident in the vehicle back in January and refuses to help with the auto repairs. The car was insured with his insurance company (Lincoln Insurance) but I was also on the policy. The insurance company raised the premium once they found out that the car was registered in Indiana (and they only service out of Illinois). This requires me to come up with more than $1600 for the repairs out of pocket. Again, my ex refuses to help with this payment. I went ahead and decideded to have the car repossessed by the financing company (because I was recently let go from my job and cannot afford to pay for the repairs as well as the car payments that are due every two weeks) but they wont do that because of the amount due for the repairs. I have been told that if I can not come to get the car from the shop that I may be sued by the auto shop. I need answers on how to deal with this problem. Can you help in any way?

You could be responsible for the cost of the repairs if you authorized them and you could be responsible for the loan on the car if you signed for the loan. Your best bet is to consult with a debtors' rights attorney to see what kind of arrangements he can make with you or whether bankruptcy might be an option. See a lawyer.
