Legal Question in Personal Injury in Indiana

Criminal negligence with painkillers

A one night stand I had(I'm Male) turned into a pregnancy and eventual abortion. The first abortion was incomplete (there were twins) and therefore about 4 months later the woman had a natural passing of the second fetus. In recovery, I was asked over to help take care of her. I said yes, but did not noticed jotted down directions when i arrived. She asked for painkillers, i searched for them. Not finding them, she told me where they were at and I gave her 1 pill. These painkillers were not prescribed for this surgery, but were perscribed to her, and it turns out the doctor was explicit on not giving her painkillers. The pill ended up thinning out her blood enough for her to bleed out a few days later, requiring multiple surgeries. Am I guilty for criminal negligence and how do i defend myself? A Few facts: 1. The one who had taken her to the hospital had texted me telling me no painkillers and if I understood, and I responded yes, but it did not come to mind when she was begging for the pills. 2. I did not put them in her mouth, I put it in her hand and she took it herself. 3. She said the doctor told her she was not ok in the mind to make decisions because of the anesthesia, but she knew exactly where her pills were located

Re: Criminal negligence with painkillers

I suggest that you dont worry about it since you apparently have not been charged with anything. If you are, you should immediately hire an attorney.

Good luck.

I focus my practice on personal injury law, so you will want to check with a criminal attorney if you are ever charged with a crime. It seems unlikely to me that you will ever be charged under the facts as you lay them out to me.
