Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

$590.00 every paycheck or they will take me to court

I'm 20 years old, I have a credit card worth $4500 that went to collections. They said I have to pay $590.00 dollars every other week or they will take me to court, and sue me for three times as much. I go to college full-time and I work, I can't afford that. Is it legal for them to do this? What are my options?

That seems like alarge bill for a 20 year old college student. It appears that the threats "they" are making violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, if they are nto the credit card company. Have they made any of these threats in writing? Keeps good notes when you talk to any of "them." Base upon the amount of yoru debt, it seems tht an attorney could get apayemtn arrangment much less that what you say they are demanding.

If you agree wit the amount they say you owe, and there is a payment arrangmenet you can liv with, tell them what you offer to pay, in a letter. It may be better to hire an attorney to deal with them for you.

Good Luck
