Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

Donated car to two minors with Mother as legal custodian

My father donated a car to me and my sister. We are both minors. She's 16, and I'll turn 18 in three months. The car has a total value of $2400, half her's and half mine. My mother is the legal custodian for us on the title, but the car is in our names. I would like to either buy her half or sell my half to my sister so I can either have the car to myself or the money to put a down payment on a new car, but my mother will not let me buy her half or sell my half, she wants me to GIVE my sister my half when I turn 18. Can she do that? Even when I turn 18 and my mother isn't my legal custodian, she'll still have to agree for my sister if I just wanted to sell it and split the money. Is there any way to get out of this deal without losing my half of the value of the car?

When you turn 18 if your mother won't agree to sell the car, you can get the court to order it since you cannot be forced to be a co-owner of property. That said, it would probably cost more than the car is worth to do that.
