Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Louisiana

Are both roommates responsible for utilities if one moves out early?

My roommate and i have been in a

lease now for 5 months. I have not

stayed there in the past 2 months,

but have continued to pay utilities

and rent. I notified her today and

said i will not be paying utilities

anymore because i removed all of my

belongings from the apt and will not

be returning. I told her that because i

signed the lease i will continue to pay

the rent for the remaining 2 months.

She is threatening to sue? is this

possible?

Re: Are both roommates responsible for utilities if one moves out early?

Unless you have some specific agreement to the contrary, you have no obligation to pay utilities after you move out. If you both signed the lease, you do have an obligation to pay your share of the rent, but you don't have to subsidize her utilities.
