Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
My boyfriend have joint custody and sometimes he can't pick up his son and his ex its entering a comtent order she move to an hour away what can he do

Normally, a visitation order allows the parent to see the child, it doesn't require it. So, it is unlikely, based on the information you provided, that she can hold him in contempt for not taking the child. Most parents would be happy to have more time with the child when the other misses the schedule appointment. Of course, this happiness would change if personal plans have to be changed, jobs are at risk, or additional money has to be spent for child care.
At the same time, if she is moving away, he can petition to court to change the current custody order to give him primary custody. It all depends on a number of factors if he will be successful. He should consider hiring an attorney for this contentious matter.
