custody
my wife has sole custody of her daughter. her ex pays child support. he has filed a petition for modification of custody but not child support. his lawyer wants my wife's medical, financial, and educational records. does she have to answer it?

Yes, if he is seeking modification of custody, the court will also review child support (since, if he got custody, your wife could be ordered to pay him). In order to get a child support computation, financial and other records are relevant (medical and educational, to see if your wife is underemployed, for example). If these documents are requested through formal discovery, they must be produced. Your income would not be considered in setting child support - only hers.
