Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Divorced 12/2008 (Maryland) and am paying alimony/$1200 monthly. Can I ask the courts to revisit this as the former spouse is now collecting 1/2 of my SS benefit (the amount of my alimony) and I am going to be out of work? The judge established the alimony on the basis that I was more likly to be employeed but at age 69 I am being laid off.

You should contact me to discuss a modification of child support. I will need the order which you seek to modify. Call me today.

As long as the alimony is modifiable (for example, if the alimony was awarded by the court or if you entered into an agreement and did not expressly make the alimony non-modifiable), you can request a modification based on a material change in circumstances. You've just articulated at least two of them, (a) your former spouse obtaining social security based on your contributions to the system, and (b) you being laid off. Time to speak with competent domestic relations counsel.
