If an independent trucker becomes

a corporation or llc are they required to obtain w/c and present

a certificate of w/c to the company

they are leased to. all other independent truckers are not required to have w/c

Although as an owner-operator you are not required to carry workers' comp, if you hire employees you would be. So these companies want to assure themselves that you have coverage for potential employees. They ought to be willing to accept a written statement from you that you have no eligible employees on your payroll, and that if you acquire any, you will provide proof of coverage.
