employment termination

I am an employee. My employer

had made a verbal contract that he

would give me 1 month's notice if I

had to terminate the job. Now he

tells me that I have to terminate in

2 weeks. Please help

I'm not sure how much you can do about this. You say that your employer made a verbal "contract" that he would give you 1 month's notice, but I wonder whether you actually got an enforceable promise from him, or whether his statement to you would be characterized by a court as something else (and therefore not enforceable as a contractual promise). If you've already asked for the extra two weeks severance payment and your employer refuses, I suppose you could file a lawsuit (either in small claims or district court, depending on the amount) seeking the extra two weeks pay. If the court decided that your employer did make a verbal contract with you, then you would probably win the case. On the other hand, if the court decided either that the conversation never happened, or that the employer's statement was not a promise to you upon which you relied, then you would probably not win.
