Can a policeman search a pakrd car when no one is in it?

He needs probable cause to believe that the car is somehow involved in a crime and that there was a legitimate need to invade the car without a warrant. A car is not the same as a trash can...unless it is being used as a trash can.
If that has happened to you, definitely get a lawyer to force the police officer to prove there was a good reason NOT to get a warrant.
