Extortion is a felony. It is not a crime to falsely accuse a person in a deposition. Falsely accusing someone of a crime could be slander which is a civil wrong and not a crime. However, slanderous statements made during a deposition are protected due to the nature of the deposition and may not constitute the civil wrong of slander.
