Legal Question in Disability Law in Michigan
My employer, (Walmart) iis demanding I prove I'm disabled by submitting a "statement of reasonable accomodation". This is a form my dr must fill out so I have the right to sit down occasionally while working as a greeter. If it is approved, I am required to provide my own stool or chair. I was also told if the request is NOT approved by management, I could be terminated. I do walk with braces and a cane; I do have a blue permanant handicapped sticker in my vehicle. My dr does not see why my confidential medical information should be part of my work record. My dr also stated letting any employer have limited information is tacit permission for the employer to review ALL of my medical history. This destroys confidentiality. Any guyidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your doctor is not a lawyer and you shouldn't rely on him or her as such. They are filling out a form which complies with the law. If you don't present the form you get no accommodations. They don't have access to your medical records unless you sign a full release. Good luck. www.kliszlaw.com. Tim Klisz
