Re: Designating signing authority

The short answer is yes. This is generally done through a "power of attorney". A General Durable Power of Attorney designates a person to be your "agent" and designates broad powers to handle property during a persons lifetime or sign on behalf of another without advance notice or approval. This power would exist even if the person becomes disabled or incompetent. This type of power of attorney does not authorize anyone to make health care decisions.

Other types of powers of attorney are:

Health Care Proxy or Living Will; General Power of Attorney for Care and Custody of Child; Special or Limited Power of Attorney for Real Estate Sales Transaction; Limited Power of Attorney where you specify the power.

There are also revocations of all of these powers that are also available.
