Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Michigan Law and Liens on Personal Property

I have a boat that is titled to me. My brother in law was making payments in order to buy it. He contracted a boat well with a Marina. He failed to pay me for the boat so I took it back. I took the boat from the marina and tied it up at my private property. The owner of the Marina took tghe boat from my property without any type of notice, saying the contract he signed with my brother in law states he can put a lein on the boat for non-payment. does the business owner have to have a court order to put the lien in effect? The police were notified and said that this was a civil matter but as of yet (2 days) I have not seen any type of documentation even though the boat is in my name. Is this legal?

Re: Michigan Law and Liens on Personal Property

The marina would have likely had a possessory lien that they lost when the boat left their property. You should hire an attorney.
