Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Michigan

Discrimination by the court? Please help!

I made a serious suicide attempt in August of 2006. When I was eventually discharged from the hospital I was given my belongings which were locked up. They included my ID, insurance card, and a ticket from the local police for disorderly conduct-public alarm! I was shocked, to say the least. Anyway, I pled ''not guilty'' and was assigned a court-appointed attorney. Out of confusion (not knowing much at all about the law) I accepted the lesser charge of ''attempted disorderly conduct'' and I was given one year of probation, and 150 hours of community service to pay off the court costs. I've searched everywhere online and can find no information on other cases where people were charged for attempting suicide. My suicide attempt was an overdose of two medications, and due to that, I have no recollection of the entire night of the suicide. Then I was unconscious in the ICU for two days, and then moved to the psychiatric floor. Is this something that I can appeal? I don't feel that I should be punished for exhibiting signs of my mental illness (which is Schizoaffective Disorder-Bipolar type). Please help!

Forget any appeal. When you took the plea, you were not under the influence of any drugs nor were you psychotic. You will be stuck with the consequences of your actions. William S. Stern

Count your blessings. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and it's also a felony (in your case attempted murder).

According to your inquiry, you were not under the influence of drugs (i.e. fully conscious) when you made the conscious decision to kill yourself.

Count yourself lucky that the court gave you a very light disposition.

There is no crime lower than "attempted disorderly conduct".

Your court appointed attorney did a good job for you.

Now...go get some help! The jail is full of inmates with Schizoaffective Disorder-Bipolar.
