Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

divorce

My friend is still married to her husband who left her for another woman 19 years ago only because she keeps his GM medical insurance. If she does divorce him will she be covered with his insurance still? Could he pay alimony to cover it? He left shortly after she was diagnosed with muscular dystropy and is not able to work because of it. This man keeps her dependent on him and she needs to break free of him all together. Would he be liable to help her financially at all?

Re: divorce

There are far too many variables to even begin to answer your questions. There are also many complex issues in this case. Finally, there are many possible resolutions to the problems that you discuss.

I strongly recommend that an experienced and aggressive family law attorney meet with your friend as soon as possible.

Re: divorce

She is entitled to half the marital estate in principal, but divorces are equitable proceedings. She needs to hire a lawyer.
