Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

My ex husband has custody of our son and lives in Arizona. He allowed our 14 year old to come live with me in Michigan last Christmas Dec 25 2009 and is letting him attend Junior High here in the state of Michigan to see if he does better academically and emotionally etc. My son is getting A's B's C's but got one D and now my ex is threatening to send him back and keep him there even though he said he could go to school here. My ex never got permission from the judge to let our son move here and attend school. Im afraid to alert the judge and tell him whats going on for fear he will send our son back for not following his ruling, but my ex said he would its ok for me to have our son and try it for a semester and see how it goes. I assumed he alerted the judge or everything was ok? Is my son considered a Michigan citizen yet, hes been here 6 mos exactly June 22 and my ex wants him to come visit Az after my sons last day June 16 not quite 6 mos. I wouldnt put it past my ex to extract our son right out of school June 16! Iam working with the school staff and hope they can back us up. What should I do?
