Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

full-time to part-time

After 6 years of full time status, I was told I had to go part-time due to cost cutting which was stated in writing on my review. When asked exactly why I was put part-time, I was told they had to give my benefits to another person who was needed at another office. I asked if I could take the job and told I was not qualified even though this person was hired from the outside. Approximately 5 weeks after part-time I went on vacation. The day I returned I was fired because they said they had some letters of complaint against me. They are now fighting my unemployment saying I cost them business accounts/money

Re: full-time to part-time

If your former employer is fighting your unemployment it is either claiming that you were insubordinate or engaged in some form of misconduct. You are entitled to appeal any adverse determination by MESC, but you must adhear to the timelines and do not miss any filing dates.

In regards to the change in your employment status, was it based on any type of discrimination, age, sex, race, marital status, etc? Do you have an employment contract or were you an at will employee?

I can think I may be able to help you. If you would like to discus this in further detail, call me at 586-992-9981 and good luck.
