Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

parental authority

my son was walking through our sub on his way home after getting off the school bus. During that walk he another boy were ''shoving'' another kid from the sub. A 4th kid told his father who at that time reported it to their school. Later that evening, he also talked with us. We contacted the offended child's parent, apologize and he has been disciplined. The school is now saying they have the right to issue disciplinary sanctions against my son. We say it has nothing to do with them. What can we do?

Re: parental authority

The argument that you make that what occurs when the kids are leaving the school bus does not seem right. Kids have a right to come and go from school without fear of being bullied. Would you make the same argument to a kid leaving the school where the bullies wait until the child walks to the sidewalk until he is attacked? The discipline that you gave your son has nothing to do with what the school does and vice-versa. It sounds like the school is doing its job. Also, what can you do? Are you really going to go get a lawyer to try to curb the school's power? William S. Stern
