Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan
My last relationship lasted 4 years, and we were engaged for 2 years. During our relationship I was asked by my ex to be in charge of all the financial aspects of our relationship including his bills. He is now suing me in civil court claiming he never gave me permission to use his checkbook. I am vigorously fighting this lawsuit, however now he is being sued by credit card companies and has told them they are not his debt and I used the cards fraudulently. At no time was any of this ever an issue until I broke off the engagement and ultimately had to file a restraining order against him. He has all the paperwork on everything because they were his bills. I'm worried that his affidavit stating he never gave me permission will cause a judgment to be entered against me.

I would recommend you consult with an attorney immediately. With any litigation
You should be aware of court deadlines; if you do not respond to a complaint within the appropriate time frame (generally 28 days if you were served by mail) you could be defaulted. An attorney can help you form defenses and potentially counterclaims that could be used to negotiate a settlement before the case goes to trial.
