Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan
My daughter was a passenger on a motorcycle accident, she called us from the accident site and we took her to the emergency room, she suffered road rash and lacerations which took almost 3 months to heal, the staff at the emergency room called the police in to take a report, we are now getting bills in the mail exceding $2000, we send text messages to the driver of the motorcycle asking for insurance information but they refuse to contact us, we were told by some friends we could make a claim for 3 times medical bills for pain and suffering, how do we proceed ?

First, you friends are mistaken. There is no such thing as "three times medical bills for pain and suffering" as a law in Michigan. If there was an automobile involved, you may have PIP coverage. There also may be a claim against the driver of the motorcycle, but texting them for information is not the way to go. Hire a personal injury specialist attorney who can look at the whole matter and explain her rights to her. Visit kliszlaw.com to discuss the matter in detail. Thanks, Tim Klisz
Unless your friends are lawyers, they are practicing law without a license, and subject to action by the Michigan Bar.
