Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan

I recently left a law firm where I was a legal secretary. In July of 09, we sent a mass mailing to attorneys in our area offering them a forty percent referral or finders fee for any personal injury case that they referred and we took and won. In August and then in September, I brought in two personal injury cases that the firm did take on and stands to make well over one hundred thousand dollars on. Am I entitled to the 40% as well?

No. Attorneys may not share referral fees with non-attorneys. It is strictly against the professional ethical rules.

No. Attorneys cannot split fees with non-attorneys. Nor can they pay anything of value for referrals for cases sent to them by non-lawyers.
