I filed bankruptcy in 2002 under the old law. chapter 7. in may this year, one of the banks I filed on placed a derogatory on my credit report . it seems like this should not be legal, I called them and they said that they would put it in their records as nonreportable in june. but, I want them to take it off the credit report.

Accounts discharged in bankruptcy can be reported for up to 10 years. After a bankruptcy discharge, the account may only report in your credit reports as "discharged." If an account is being reported anything other than this, you may have remedies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Consumer law firms, like ours (MinCal Consumer Law - mincal.com), help consumers, often at no out of pocket costs to you, with these types of situations.
