Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

can I be made to pay child support and spousel maintance

My ex and his lawyer made it so I couldn't have time to respond to a motion of my ex going for full child custody and spousel maintaince. No Lawyer could help me file in time and my ex would not give me a week extension to respond. Now I have been of work since dec. for back surgery, and need more but don't want to go thru it now. I only worked pt. and I was a stay at home mom. I am 44 and now they say I have to work full time and pay him, which I gave him everything to start out with. I have no education and never graduated. I am really getting screwed but can't do anything about it. I did re- marry but do not want my new husband to pay for my problems. Do I have an recourse to take, or do I have to find work and pay. I help with my son, and see and stay in touch with him, but he is afraid to go against his father.I even bought my son a cell phone so I can talk to him.

Your new husband's income should not be counted.

You will have to file a response or ask the court for an extention of time to file an appropiate response. It is unclear whether the court has issued an order or whether their motion is pending.
