Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Cashing payroll checks

My employer has bounced payroll once, so many of us try to cash our payroll checks at the bank named on our checks. This has made our employer angry, so the last couple times we have tried to cash them, some cash, some don't. Our employer states there is only $10,000 in that account, and we should just deposit them instead. Our company is NOT doing well financially, but I cannot afford to have another paycheck bounce. Does our employer have the right to not allow us to cash our checks, forcing us to deposit them and take our chances?

Thank you.

If checks are dishonored (bounced) you may have right to statutory penalty under MN law.
