Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

False Accusations

An individual just made a false accusation about me in writing to his lawyer. The accusation was that I have been mentally and verbally abusive to his daughter and son, while in the presence of their mother, who is my girlfriend. None of this is true, on the contrary I have tried my best to be a decent human being and treat them as if they were my own. He has made these accusations and others in the past to somehow get back at his ex-wife, my girlfriend. What can I/we do? I am in the Army and have served with honor for 21 years. My girfriend and I plan to marry, I am on orders for Germany and we are concerned that this will keep us from being able to take her daughter, which she has custody of. Any advice would be extremely helpful!

Re: False Accusations

How did you find out about the false accusation? There could be an issue of attorney client privilege or the immunity that is allowed in relation to legal proceedings.

As to his making the accusation to others, you can sue for slander. I think that most attorneys, myself included, would require a retainer fee and would do the case on a blended contingency and hourly.
