Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey
Website copyright
I am in the process of developing a website for educational purpose. It will be a "portal" where I hyperlink sites of interest. I would like to copyright the contents of my page. Also, I would like to have someone with experience in internet and law browse my site and advise me on legal matters and also any special copyrights I can apply to certain contents of my site which I believe to be of special value or uniqueness.
Could you please suggest an appropriate legal source?
Thank you.

Re: Website copyright
You can obtain basic copyright protection for your site simply by posting a notice in a specific form. Should someone copy the format and information from your site, however, you would have to prove actual damages; that can be difficult and expensive. If you register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office, you can sue for statutory damages, which are damages in a fixed amount. Feel free to contact me for specifics on the services I offer in this area and their cost.
This is general information for discussion purposes. We would need to have an attorney-client relationship for me to give legal advice.

Hire the services of a competent patent attorney in your area who specializes in computer/internet technologies. He/she would be the best to advise you.

The header on your message says you are from New Jersey. You might see if the NJ Bar Association has a lawyer referral program. Similarly, if you live in a larger city, the local bar association may have a similar referral program. Also, I would be happy to visit with you generally about your site and your copyright concerns.
