Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

I went to work for a company after agreeing to the salery. I was asked to start right away, which I did. After the second day there, the owner called all the workers in the office for a meeting. He walked up to one of the employee's grabed him by the throut with both ahnds and started shacking him around like a rag doll. I got between the two of them and held the owner off.

I decided that night there was no way I wanted to work for this guy. So I told him the next day that I wasn't staying and would like my pay for the two days that I worked for him. He came up with a figure of $500.00 and wrote me a check. Needless to say, he stopped the check. What can I do?

this is one of those situations where i just wish the person telling the story (you) were close enough for me to help you out.

what your former short term boss did was a crime, assault against the employee who he grabbed and choked. criminal charges would be great; the victim should talk to the cops.

working for 2 days and not getting paid, you do a couple of things to this guy:

1. you go to the NJ Wage and Hour Board and they will pursue.

2. you sue him in small claims court and ask for your attorney's fees to be paid by him and also you ask for the $500 PLUS punitive damages of double that amount to punish him.

good luck. go get him! you may try to get a lawyer near you to talk to you and help you.
