Disrobing in Public

I was recently ticketed for disrobing in the street in Mantoloking, NJ. After finishing surfing at the beach, I proceded to my friend's car to change out of my wetsuit and into clothes. I did so next to his vehicle, while using a towel around my waist, so I was not nude in public. At no point was I ever exposed. The police officer drove up to me as I was wearing only a towel and then wrote me the ticket. He asked if I had on anything under the towel, and I said no. I believe the offense is a public nuissance. Do I stand a chance at getting the charge dropped or reduced to something that doen't sound as bad and isn't associated with sex offenders.

I would call the court and find out exactly what you are being charged with, the fines, etc. You probably don't need an attorney for this. You should speak to the prosecutor when you go to court and see what he or she says. If you don't like it, you can then get an attorney and come back another day.

It is not an offense not to wear under

your clothing. If you are covered by a towel you are not nude and there is no

offense.
